Moscow Airports

Airport

There are four civil airports round Moscow. All of them are located not far the city. The furthest airport (Domodedovo) is 22 km from Moscow. These airports are Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Bikovo and Sheremet’evo.

Domodedovo is the biggest and the most perspective airport in Russia. In the country it takes the first place in terms of domestic and international cargo.

The airport is reconstructed and now there is a modern passenger terminal, cargo terminal, high-quality catering and a four-star hotel “Domodedovo Aerohotel”. Its aerodrome is one of the best in Russia in terms of its infrastructure.

The international Vnukovo airport is located 11 km from Moscow. It is one of the biggest airports in the country. Each day there are over 80 flights round Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey and tens of charter flights round Russia and abroad. There is another airport terminal “Vnukovo-2”. It serves President and Government of the RF. Despite the separate building it uses the run way of Vnukovo. The number of passengers in the year of 2001 was 3 666 304; 59 020 tons of cargo and 63 325 flights. 

Bikovo. Its capacity is 350 passengers an hour. The airport building area is 2,5 thousand square metres. Not so long ago there was built an international terminal. Its capacity is 100 passengers an hour. This airport is the state frontier point.   The aircraft handling takes about half an hour. It gives an opportunity to serve 3 or 4 flights in the morning and 1 or 2 in the afternoon and evening. Its run way length is 2,2 km and width is 40 metres.

Sheremet’evo airport was set up in 1959. It is located 11 km from Moscow. There are two terminals: Sheremet’evo-1 (Sh-1) for domestic and some international flights and Sheremet’evo-2 (Sh-2) for international flights only. There are 2 parallel run ways artificially covered. The capacity of Sh-2 is 800 passengers an hour for the international flights and 600 passengers for domestic. There is also a 93-bed hotel on the terminal’s territory.

In the Sh-2 sector there are over 40 parking places for long and middle distance aircrafts. There are also 21 parking places supplied with telescopic ladders. The capacity of the international terminal is 2 100 passengers an hours. There is a 500-bed hotel and a four-star Novotel 516-bed hotel. The main carrier that operates there is Aeroflot (Russian International Airlines). Thirty percent of passenger transportation operates to Europe (Germany, Britain, France and Italy).
